H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, accompanied by Julius Korir (PS for Water) and Andrew Rage (NWWDA CEO), on 2nd June 2027 commissioned the Expansion of the Eldas Town Water Supply Project in Eldas Constituency—a major milestone in the Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance access to clean and safe water in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid regions.
The project is part of the Dadantallai–Eldas–Jukala–Wardey Programme, a strategic multi-year water supply initiative being implemented by the Northern Water Works Development Agency (NWWDA). It is designed to address persistent water scarcity and strengthen critical water infrastructure in Eldas Sub-County.
Key project components include the drilling and equipping of seven production boreholes, installation of submersible pumps, electrical and control systems, solar power units and generators. It also involves the construction of 10 kilometres of rising mains and 16 kilometres of water distribution pipelines, alongside the development of two elevated steel water storage tanks with a combined capacity of 500 cubic metres.
In addition, the initiative supports improved sanitation through the construction of four Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrine blocks, and strengthens the protection of critical infrastructure through perimeter fencing of project sites.
Once completed, the project is expected to provide reliable access to clean and safe water for over 10,200 residents, while also supporting livestock watering and contributing to improved public health, sanitation, and socio-economic development for the community.
The commissioning of this project is a clear demonstration of the Government’s commitment to advancing equitable access to water services and improving the quality of life for all Kenyans.
